Sparklers Exits are a fun way to end the night, surrounded by all of your wedding quests. The light of the sparklers and the cheering crowd can create a truly magical moment... and magical photos! While they can be really fun, a good sparkler exit can be a little tricky to pull off. Here's our tips and tricks to help you make it happen!
CHOOSE THE RIGHT SPARKLERS
One of the most important part of getting the perfect sparkler exit photos is getting the correct kind of sparklers. You’ll want to purchase long 36” sparklers. The standard short sparklers will burn out too quickly and won’t last long enough and will burn out before you can get good photos. You’ll also want to look for low smoke sparklers so the area doesn’t get too clouded.
GET GOOD LIGHTERS
You’ll want to purchase 4 torch lighters. Standard Bic lighters and matches are likely to blow out if it’s a windy day. Torch lighters are much easier to use when you’re trying to light a bunch of sparklers at once.
BRING BUCKETS TO COLLECT THE USED SPARKLERS
When everything is done, you’ll need a way to safely collect the burned up sparklers. Bring 4 buckets full of sand or water to help cool any that are still hot. One bucket should be placed at each end of the two rows of guests.
CHOOSE SOMEONE TO DIRECT
Designate one person to get everyone lined up 10 minutes prior to your exit. Getting a large group of people organized at a wedding can be a little like herding cats. So pick one person to direct the rest of the wedding guests into 2 lines. This is also the time to make sure the sparklers are passed out to everyone.
LIGHT EM' UP!
You’ll want to designate 4 people to pass out and light the sparklers. Once they get the signal from you, they can start getting everyone’s sparklers lit. Start lighting at the ends and the middle of each line. Once these key parts of the lines are lit, the guests can use their lit sparklers to help light up their neighbors’.
REMEMBER THAT IT GOES BY QUICK!
Once a 36” sparkler is lit, the photographer has 2 minutes or less to get the shots! That means that once the first sparkler is lit, it’s a race against the clock until they’re burned out. When all of the sparklers are lit, the couple will want to start walking immediately.
WALK SLOW
When it’s finally time to walk down, walk a little slower than normal. Don't rush too quickly or you’ll speed through the line of sparklers and won’t get as many good shots. With the right pace, you should reach the end of the line just as the sparklers start going out–making the most of the 2 minutes while they’re lit!
COLLECT THE SPENT SPARKLERS
You don’t want to leave the venue with a big mess to clean up, so the people with the lighters should also be responsible for letting the guests know that they used sparklers should be disposed of in the buckets of sand or water.
